What has changed in 2026
The New Green Savings programme has shifted from blanket subsidies to targeted support. Households with lower incomes will receive a direct grant for insulation under the regime NZÚ Light. Other owners of detached houses may utilise interest-free loan. You take out the loan from a participating bank or building society; the State Environmental Fund pays the interest for the entire repayment period and you repay only the principal. Insulation remains supported, but as part of a more comprehensive house renovation.
NZÚ Light: direct grant for households with lower incomes
Intended for owners of detached houses with permanent residence where the household meets the programme's income criteria (typically pensioners, recipients of housing benefits and lower-income households). Supports partial insulation including window and front door replacement or shading installation and replacement of non-compliant heat sources. Applications can also be submitted for DIY insulation, but we recommend professional implementation to ensure warranty coverage and attention to detail.
Interest-free loan for other households
- A loan from a participating bank or building society, with interest subsidised by the state.
- Facade, roof, attic or ceiling insulation, window and door replacement, controlled ventilation, heat source, photovoltaics. Multiple measures can be combined.
- The application includes an expert proposal of measures and an assessment prepared by an energy specialist. Documentation from our side (construction design, budget, schedule) is part of the contract.
Energy consulting and renovation passport
The programme includes free energy consultancy and a renovation passport for the building: a document describing the sequence in which to renovate the house so that measures build upon one another. When planning the façade, roof and windows in stages, the renovation passport will save you from repeated adjustments to details.
How we help with subsidies
- During the inspection we will inform you which support schemes apply to your house.
- We will design the assembly to meet the programme's requirements for the thermal transmittance coefficient, not just the standard minimum.
- We hand over documentation for the energy specialist and cooperate with them on the assessment.
- Upon completion, we will provide photo documentation, invoices and a handover protocol in the format required by the fund.
Insulation makes sense even without a subsidy: lower heating bills, warm walls free from mould and higher property value. With a subsidy or an interest-free loan, however, the payback period is shortened. How a project proceeds step by step is described on the page how it works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I receive a subsidy for house insulation in 2026?
Households meeting the income criteria of the NZÚ Light scheme will receive a direct grant. Other owners of detached houses can use an interest-free loan where the state covers the interest. During the inspection we will tell you which option applies to you.
Are subsidies also available for seniors?
Seniors receiving a state pension are eligible for the NZÚ Light scheme if they own and permanently reside in a detached house. We will verify the conditions against the current version of the programme.
Does the subsidy also cover window replacement?
Yes, window and front door replacement is a supported measure under NZÚ Light and within the interest-free loan scheme, usually in combination with insulation.
When to apply: before or after insulation?
The application is usually submitted before or during the implementation, including a proposal of measures. Proof of completion and payment follows after implementation. We will set the schedule so that the deadlines align.
